Charolais

The Charolais story at Allanfauld started in 1970, with the purchase of the bull, Mindrum Elite, for 580gns. This was for use in the 300-strong suckler cow herd. >

The first female bought was Mearns Ecorse, followed in 1977 with the purchase of the small Wheatrig herd. A bull calf from that herd, Wheatrig Major, gave us our first Perth Charolais champion- we’re still waiting for the second!

The purchase of Acton Semele, the reserve female champion at Perth in 1983, proved to be our most influential purchase. Her sons, Union Jack, Vagabond, Flintlock, Flashboy, Ferryman, Hobo and JR all did well.

Flintlock only had three pedigree sons at Allanfauld before his untimely death. They were sold for 10,000gns, 9,000gns, and £6,000.

Vagabond without a doubt has been our best known herd sire. He has bred 3 Smithfield champions and sired the mothers of another three. He and his dam continue to be a strong influence on the Allanfauld herd.
